Day 17 - a bit of a downturn

Marika and her doctors are working to resolve some new issues these past few days. She's not feeling as good as she was. Keep the love coming. She'll be talking to you again soon and is listening to you now. ~Janet

Hey Marika:

Sylvie's Mom here.. I am giving Sylv your blogaddress -- she will be in touch soon.

You are very, very brave and a great kid and we are thinking of you and your family all the time. As you may know, Sylvie's brother Mike beat cancer more than ten years ago. I remember how difficult it was then... and I send you very big (and very careful, germ-free, odor-free, gentle) HUGS. And to your parents, too.

Mrs. Strauss.

Marika,
Just wanted to let you know I’m thinking about you and you are in our thoughts and prayers. We know how hard this must be for you and your family. You will find you are all stronger then you ever knew. This is when you learn how important and dear friends and family are. It was so great to see you and Greg at the Hanukkah party down in Sanibel you both have grown up so nicely. I look forward to seeing you there again this year. You WILL beat this. You’re not alone, lean on those close to you. Cornel

Hi Marik-
Just got off the phone with Tory who was on her way to pick up the wonton soup you requested for dinner. She said you are looking and feeling so much better.Terrific!
I too believe in the healing qualities of wonton soup! FYI Orange sherbert is also miraculous in it's power to heal.
Love you so much.

hi marika,
its alex (zoe's older sister) and i wanted to send you some sunshine and hugs. also, i had an idea inspired by an event that happens every year in atlanta for once you're back here in ithaca. basically, its like jump rope for life except people collect donations for shaving their heads to honor your fight against leukemia. we'd have good food and fun music, games, anything you can think of really. i've been thinking about going down to fuzz for a while now, and it would be a way for all the people who love you to come together and visibly demonstrate our commitment to your healing. just a thought. i hope you're feeling better all the time and that soon you'll be able to enjoy the fruits of the season. xoxo

Hey Meeks,

I understand your misery over losing your hair. I heard that you viewed a book of "Bald is Beautiful" showing women who've chosen to turn their bare scalps into an art form. I'd love to see something like that. I'm tempted to shave MY head before I come up to see you next time. I'd bet you $500 that I'd look dorkier than you would! Say the word, sweet pea, and we'll "bare" it together!

I hope to get up there this weekend
to see you. I'm just tryig to figure out if it's allergies or a head cold that I'm struggling with.
It feels like allergy, but I want to be sure. I don't want to bump you off just yet. I am SOOOOOOO glad that we didn't lose you during that first horrible week. I've never been so scared, yet I bet my fear was nothing compared to yours. I'm thrilled that you're doing so well now. I hope you get to go home soon. Do you even remember what it's like to sleep in your own bed? I'll bet you can't wait. Just keep being your wonderfully strong and gutsy
self. Don't let depression get the better of you. You can and will beat the crap out of this disease, and then I can't wait for the celebration (yeah..........!!)

Gotta go take care of sick people.
Lots of love,

(Aunt) Laurie

Marika,
It's Anne Robbins from Montessori.
As I listen to the rehearsals for Annie I am reminded of you and your wonderful voice. I was remembering Guys and Dolls along with the first play I saw you in, Joseph. wow. You are still the same powerhouse you were at 7! So, rest and heal and know that so many people have you in their hearts, including me...
